Pastel Patty — A Whimsical, Watercolor Illustration Full of Soft Pastels & Possibilities
INSPIRATIONAL WAYS TO CREATE WITH PASTEL PATTY

Every now and then, a girl shows up on the page who feels like a whisper from somewhere softer — a place where colors float, morning light lingers, and imagination stretches out like a fresh sheet of watercolor paper. Pastel Patty is one of those girls.
Pastel Patty is a dreamy, watercolor soul who seems to float between petals, thoughts, and quiet morning light. Soft washes of peach, lilac, and leafy greens surround her, while delicate, sketchy linework brings her expression to life. She’s a gentle whisper of color and emotion — a reminder to slow down, breathe, and let art feel tender again.
Pastel Patty stands beautifully on her own as an individual piece of art. She was created to be a moment — a full piece of art you can frame, gift or use as a journal cover,
She carries a sweet mix of watercolor softness and hand-drawn character that feels both modern and timeless. Whether she reminds you of a memory, a muse, a daughter, a friend, or even a version of your younger self, she holds a quiet story in her eyes.
She's painted on hot-water pressed, watercolor paper with a mixture of gouache from DIY Paint and I used a lot of water. She has pencil and pen line marking for details in her hair and face. The background is meant to be seen through her hair and skin. I really like how her cheeks and lips turned out.
Patty’s story is simple: she’s a soft moment. A pause. A little breath between the busy and the beautiful.
And she’s ready to become part of your creative story.
Here are some of the wonderful things you can create with her:
💕 1. Wall Art (Portrait or Landscape!)
Print Patty in 10x8 or 7x5 inches, pop her into a frame, and she becomes instant wall art.
What I love most is how she works in both directions: 1. Vertical (portrait): A classic, intentional art print. 2. Horizontal (landscape): A wide, airy layout that highlights the leaves and background.

Try printing her horizontally and cropping closer to her face for a dreamy, modern look. You can even add fibers, lace, or dimensional flowers — like I did in the photo above — to create a mixed media illustration with real texture.
🌸 2. Journal Covers & Inserts
Pastel Patty makes a beautiful journal cover, especially printed in the 7x5 or 6x4 sizes.
She sets the mood for storytelling, reflection, and quiet creativity.
Place her on: 1) the front of a handmade journal; 2) a fold-out center spread; 3) or as a serene presence among your daily pages
She pairs beautifully with lace, vellum, stitched edges, and your favorite blooms.
✂️ 3. Card Making & Giftable Art
With her gentle palette and expressive eyes, Patty becomes a heartfelt focal image for: sympathy cards, handmade mini prints for gifts, thinking-of-you cards, encouragement cards or birthday cards
Her soft pastels create a mood that words alone can’t always convey.
🎨 4. Art Journaling Focal Point
Whether you work with pastels, watercolor or collage, Patty slips seamlessly into mixed media pages.
Try: 1) printing the large image and adding dimensional embellishments like fabric rosettes, lace petals, or embroidered stitches; 2) printing the smaller 2.5x2 image for tiny clusters; or 3) printing the medium sizes for layering
She becomes the “main character” on the page — a quiet presence that helps pull a story together.
🌼 5. Mixed Media Portrait Play
One of my favorite ways to use Patty is printing her as a close-up, enlarging just her face and shoulders (landscape orientation), then adding embellishments: - texture paste petals, watercolor splashes, torn collage papers, vintage buttons, fabric roses, stitched flowers
It gives her dimension, charm, and personality — like she’s stepping out from behind the leaves.

🌟 A Note From Me
Pastel Patty came from one of those quiet Southern mornings when the paintbrush decides by the Grace of God what it wants to do, and I simply follow behind. She is tender, dreamy, and full of emotion — and my hope is that she becomes part of your creative storytelling.
Whether she’s on your wall, part of your journal, or tucked into a handmade card, may she bring a little softness and joy to your day.
Thanks, Terri
