Our Premise - The Why Behind Morning Dewdrops
Hi, my name is Terri Stephens, and I am in my sixties. Some people tell me I am crazy to pursue dreams at my age. Does this make me uncomfortable? Yes, but I am crazy good at being uncomfortable.
We are born to create and unlimited imagination is within all of us. In fact, according to Albert Einstein, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” If this is true, then we do not have to be experts in our creative endeavors. At Morning Dewdrops, we believe there’s magic in being a novice and learning from others as we hone our craft.
As creative makers, we have many ideas and interests, but along with that comes fear and self doubt. My nemesis hit me in the face 15 years ago after reading, “The Voiceless” by Oliver Wendall Holmes, 1858. He wrote,
“Many people die with their music still in them. Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out.”
This saddened me, so I put myself out there and created a blog called Morning Dewdrops to inspire others. From there, Morning Dewdrops evolved into what it is today. (Please read Morning Dewdrops' Blueprint)
You and I may be novice creators, but the sharing of these creative ideas eventually oozes into one another like sweet, sticky candy allowing the initiation of our ideas to become easier.
Spending time creating what we love is deeply rooted in what we believe. If we believe perfection does not exist and perceptions are only what people tell themselves, would we tenaciously hone our craft and not let time slip away even when things do not turn out the way we imagine? Is so, the inevitable changes in our lives are not so scary.
Learning to overcome my nemesis helped me to change my belief system, ignore perfection and what other people may think. I also learned from our children to be more open which allowed me to be more accepting to people not like myself.
We stifle our fears with a strong willingness to act. This is not easy to achieve in our world today, is it? It reminds me of the song “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke.
I have been a mixed-media artist for over 15 years and my dream is to inspire others in whatever creative endeavor, no matter how small, they embark upon and to challenge, collaborate and bring community to creative makers in “The Art of Doing.”
“We create moments in time before it runs out.” – Terri Stephens
